Founded in 2015, The Bate Collective is the historical performance ensemble attached to the Music Faculty at the University of Oxford. Originally student-led, the name of the group comes from Philip Bate, the original curator of the historical instruments collection at the Music Faculty, the Bate Collection. Specialising in music from the 17th and 18th centuries, the group uses many of the instruments from the Bate Collection in their performances. Performing at least once a term in spaces across Oxford, they are also regular participants in Keble Early Music Festival and members of the ensemble have performed alongside Instruments of Time and Truth and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment in side-by-side projects.
